Typing speed test

Type the words as fast and accurately as you can.

Press Space after each word. Press Esc to restart.

How WPM is calculated

A "word" is standardized as five characters including spaces. KeyRace adds up the characters of correctly typed words plus their spaces, divides by five, and divides by the minutes elapsed. Raw WPM counts every key you pressed, including mistakes.

Accuracy and consistency

Accuracy compares each typed word with the target letter by letter. Consistency shows how steady your speed was from second to second: higher means a smoother rhythm.

Getting faster

Aim for 95% accuracy or better before chasing speed. Use Practice missed words after each test, and if you look at the keyboard, spend a few minutes on Key drills every day.

FAQ

Why are punctuation runs not saved as bests?
Difficulty varies a lot by option, so only plain word tests count toward personal bests.
Where do the words come from?
Common words were hand-picked; harder words come from the SCOWL word lists.
