What is romaji input?
Most people type Japanese by entering romaji, which the input method turns into kana: か is ka and しゃ is sha. This test uses direct romaji typing with the input method turned off, the style used by most Japanese typing games. Kana committed from a Japanese IME is accepted too.
Spellings that count
- し: shi, si, ci. ち: chi, ti. つ: tsu, tu. ふ: fu, hu. じ: ji, zi
- Small っ: double the next consonant (kka, cchi), or type xtu or ltu
- ん: nn before a vowel, y or n; a single n works elsewhere
- The long vowel mark ー is the hyphen key
How speed is counted
Net speed is the number of romaji keystrokes in correctly typed words, plus the spaces after them, per minute. The same word can take a different number of keys depending on the spelling you use.
